It’s a Friday morning while I sit here to work (It will be a Saturday by the time I have posted this). As it is my brain works just part time on weekdays, but this Friday(even bigger a reason for surprise) I find it working overtime. To do what? To come up with a universal set of Seven Basic principles that shall act as a guide for a more effective tomorrow, that I shall call the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Programmers” Stephen Covey, you have some stiff competition coming your way I say!
1. Be anti-Kabir in your approach towards programming. (For the unitiated, anti-Kabir is a philosophical position which goes against the much revered time management teachings of Kabir (Kal karai so aaj kar..blah blah). Anti-Kabir, as you might have guessed, is "Don't do today what you can do tomorrow and don't do tomorrow what you can do the day after" ). You never want to work more for the same cash afterall!
2. When in doubt, right-click.
3. Subject the screen to a "Stare Test". Most often the thing that you are looking for is somewhere there.
4. Write a most complex code for even the simplest of applications, so that like modern art and 16th century poetry, none understands & everyone appreciates it, with only you knowing the real ‘thing’.
5. Take coffee breaks. Often. Like right now.
6. Be careful about the code you develop, Microsoft might be lurking around to steal your ideas.
7. Make sure you never make your technical presentation post noon, everyone’s just waiting to doze off!! Neither shall you keep one towards EOD, everyone’s just waiting to leave home. Neither in the morning, coz you rarely find anyone there. And if you haven’t already realized it yet, I’ve basically been talking B.S. all along!
But for the cynics out there, IT’s not all that bad i say!
